Professor H’s Spectacular Secret Tips and Magnificent Tricks For Venice

Hello everyone, and happy Chewsday!  Today marks the first of “Professor’s travel tips”, a.k.a. “All (most of?) the things I learned the hard way so you don’t have to.” Also when I say “first” that shouldn’t–and doesn’t–imply this is a weekly thing. It’s a “when I remember I’m supposed to make blog posts” kind of thing. The biggest bit of info I have to share right now is–of course–Italy. Let’s start with probably my favorite… Read the entire post here!

Grand Finale of The Great Italian Road Trip 2023–Palermo!

I’m a little sad today, as it’s the finale of our Great Italian Road Trip from February. Today, we’re exploring Palermo. Some new experiences, some familiar faces. Let’s get to it. If you’ve read last year’s entry, you’ll know there’s an overnight ferry that links Palermo and Naples. Last year, we took that ferry. This year, not so much. The sea was very angry that evening, and–despite no actual seasickness–there was very little (nearly zero)… Read the entire post here!

The Great Italian Road Trip 2023, Part 4–Ercolano and Napoli!

Salve amici! Welcome back! Hope everyone had a lovely week. Let’s jump right into it, shall we? After the most spectacular McDonald’s visit ever, the trip down the Autostrada was relatively uneventful. Except for this bit of automotive excellence: That’s right, it’s the DACIA SANDERO!!! Three of you got that joke. Anywho….. Arrival in Ercolano didn’t take very long at all, and it was immediately up the hill to the crater of Vesuvius. Along the… Read the entire post here!

The Great Italian Road Trip 2023, Part 3–ROMA!!!

Well well well. Look at me. Forgetting to schedule a post like an idiot. *sips old fashioned* Well kids, I apologize profusely for that, that’s on me entirely. I’m sure you’ll forget all about it when you kick back and read about the absolute MAJESTY that is…..Roma. (that’s “Rome” for those of you not enrolled with Duolingo’s intensive Italian tutelage) Let’s see, where did we leave off? AH YES!!! I had just finished (looks at… Read the entire post here!

The Great Italian Road Trip 2023, Part 2–Firenze

Ciao ragazzi, and welcome back! Nice to see everyone’s (hopefully) smiling faces again (and if you aren’t, you will be by the end of this post!). We left the action last week with a sad farewell to one of the most amazing cities on the planet, Venezia, and we pick up the story after a vaporetto and bus ride to Marco Polo airport, in order to retrieve the (alleged) VW Golf from Sixt. It wasn’t… Read the entire post here!

The Great Italian Road Trip 2023, Part 1–Carnevale di Venezia

Well hello there everyone! It’s been a fair minute, but it’s nice to see you all back again. Your dear old friend the Professor has been on yet another adventure across Italia, sort of a “reverse order” from last year. We start our fun not in Venice as the title implies, but in a quiet subdivision outside Baltimore. (Yes, it’s a bit word-heavy at first but I *PROMISE* the photos are coming…) I awoke at… Read the entire post here!

Ridiculously Fantastic European Adventure Part 2: Tomorrowland Belgium, Weekend 2

We left off last week with beans, bacon, toast, eggs, blood sausage, and tea. A Full English. No better way to prepare for the adventure that lay ahead: Eurostar to Brussels, and a proper European rave. After breakfast and a little aimless wander, bags were packed and the Bank tube station once again provided the quick ride to St Pancras. Security was, as usual, significantly quicker and less cumbersome than TSA (but in fairness TSA… Read the entire post here!

The Jazz and People Triumphantly Return! New Orleans March 2021

You already know 2020 was ridiculous. If you read my previous post about New Orleans, you know that in July 2020 it was depressingly empty. There weren’t any bands busking in the French Quarter. There weren’t any tourists there to support them anyway. There was ONE group playing outside Cafe du Monde, but that was it. It was definitely strange. Veterans of the July 2020 story already know about the otters (side note, that would… Read the entire post here!

New Orleans Ghost Town/Otter Swim, July 2020

I’m not going to spend a lot of time dwelling on the absolute shit-show 2020 turned into. You already know, you were there. Suffice it to say, both opportunities for a Rave Hajj were thwarted, leaving a lot of mixed feelings (mostly “dammit” types of feelings). A vacation was called for, no matter what. Can’t travel internationally, so that rules out a lot of new adventures. But then I found out about Barn Hill Preserve… Read the entire post here!

COVID update

Turns out when you write about your travels, and then a thing happens that stops basically any and all travel…..well that sucks. So here’s a quick infographic on my travels of late. I hope you enjoy it. I stole it from the internet. I do not have “original artist’s credit” but it’s been making rounds on various meme pages on facetube. Stay safe everyone. I may do some “local shenanigans” in the next few weeks… Read the entire post here!
